Parent Partnerships & Learning at Home
“Behind the child that makes the most progress is an actively involved parent”
Building and valuing our parental partnerships is extremely important to us here at Smart Teenies Nursery. Our partnerships do not just stop at the doors, we offer parents lots of exciting ideas, advice and suggestions on ways to help their child reach their true potential.
At Smart Teenies Nursery we welcome and encourage all parents and carers to participate within our stay and play sessions. This is where parents and carers get the chance to play with their children within their environment and gain tips and ideas on what activities they can easily do at home. We send out fun activities, tips and recipes for our parents to carry out with their child to help further their development.
7 Ways Parents & Teachers build Partnership
1. Engage together in meaningful dialogue
2. Show Mutual Respect
3. Actively listen to one another
4. Collaborate on issues that affect the childs learning
5. Empathize with one another
6. Open themselves to learning from each other
7. Involve the children as responsible collaborators in their own learning
Famly Online App
Famly is an all-in-one early childhood platform, that gives you real-time updates on your child’s day straight to an app on your phone. With Famly, you’ll be able to access pictures, videos, and announcements via the newsfeed, or your child’s profile. At the click of a button, you can update permissions, report sickness and holidays, pay your bill, and send direct messages to us whenever you need. At the same time, there’s a bunch of admin tools and support that will give our staff even more time to spend with your children.
Safeguarding - Is Everyone’s Responsibility
At Smart Teenies we take all reasonable measures to ensure that the risks of harm to children’s welfare are minimized by ensuring our staff are DBS checked and regularly trained to be aware of behavioural, emotional and physical indicators that suggest the possibility of abuse without bias. We do this by:
- Having a range of policies and working procedures in place.
- Building positive relationships with our parents to signpost children and families who will benefit from services of early help.
- Creating opportunities to discuss your child’s wellbeing and progress with you.
- Providing a learning environment, which meets the needs of young children and recognise the importance of high quality play.
WE TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR CHILD!
We treat every child as our own, dedicating ourselves wholeheartedly to their success.
Literacy Foundation to become Foundation
Literacy foundation
1. Play lays the foundation for literacy. Through play children learn to make and practise new sounds. They try out new vocabulary, on their own or with friends, and exercise their imagination through storytelling. Within Smart Teenies we use & Letters and Sounds phase one phonics to support our children.
Develop communication
3. Play encourages adults to communicate with the children in their lives. Adults support play by giving children the opportunity to engage in play, by knowing when not to intervene, and by knowing when to intervene.
Choice
5. Play gives children choice. Having enough toys or activities to choose from will allow children to express themselves.
Twice a child
7. Play gives adults the chance to learn how to play again. One of the
most challenging parts of play is incorporating yourself in it.
Patience
9. Play teaches adults patience and understanding. If you do choose to join in your child’s play make sure that you do not try to take it over and force incorporation of your ultimate learning objectives into their play. Structured adult-led activities have their time and place but remember to allow for time for children to control and decide their own play.
Play is learning
2. Play nurtures development and fulfils a baby’s inborn need to learn. Play takes many forms, from shaking a rattle to peek-a- boo to hide-and-seek. Play can be done by a child alone, with another child, in a group or with an adult.
Develop imagination
4. Play gives children the chance to be spontaneous. You may think your child should be rolling the truck on the ground but that doesn’t mean that truck is not equally useful as a stacking toy. This helps to develop a child’s imagination.
Test limits
6. Play gives children space. To practise physical movement, balance and to test their own limits.
Body language
8. Play allows adults to learn their child’s body language. Knowing when you should incorporate yourself in your child’s play is key.
Sociable
10. Play is fun. Learning to play well, both by themselves and with
others, sets children up to be contented and sociable

FAQs
Can I pay hourly for childcare?
We don’t provide childcare on an hourly basis. At Smart Teenies we have a minimum of 2 full days requirement, since we believe this pattern supports their emotional wellbeing and help them to make friends and form positive relationships with adults.
Please contact your local nursery manager to discuss your requirements further.
Do I need to pay extra for snacks whilst Your child attends nursery?
Your child’s meals and snacks are all covered in your nursery fee (unless your child is receiving government funding), so you won’t need to make any additional payments.
Their nursery place includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a variety of tasty snacks throughout the day, and we can cater for all kinds of dietary requirements and allergies as well as fussy eaters. Just talk to our nursery team if your child has any specificneeds. You can take a look at an example menu here.
My child is a very fussy eater, can I provide a packed lunch from home?
For lots of children and for all kinds of reasons, food can be a bit tricky. In fact, that’s exactly why we don’t allow packed lunches or snacks from home at our nurseries; many of the children in our care have allergies, and we just can’t put their safety at risk.
Do you offer funded places?
Of course but they are limited! We know it’s not always easy to cover the costs of childcare, so we’re pleased to offer a variety of funding options at our nurseries – including 30 hours funded childcare. If you’re not sure whether you qualify, speak to your local authority to work out the right
funding option for you. You can find more about childcare funding
www.childcarechoices.gov.uk
What are your ratios?
Our rooms are all designed to be age specific.
At Smart Teenies, we follow the guidelines for ratios as set by Ofsted.
- 0-2 years: 1 adult to 3 children
- 2-3 years: 1 adult to 5 children
- 3+ years: 1 adult to 8 children
How long is your waiting list?
Some terms we have immediate availability while others have waiting lists – the length of these will vary. For the most up to date information please speak with the Managing Director or Assistant Manager who will be happy to help.
How do I secure a place for my child/ren?
Firstly, we would recommend booking a nursery tour if you haven’t done so already. Visiting the nursery means you can meet our team, talk through your requirements in person and really appreciate what we have to offer your family. You will also be able to ask the managers about availability and how to register.
Describe the item or answer the question so that site visitors who are interested get more information. You can emphasize this text with bullets, italics or bold, and add links.
Our nursery fills up quickly, especially now that additional funding is being made available to parents of babies, so if you would like to book a place with us, we recommend you do that as soon as possible, to avoid disappointment. If you are expecting a new baby, or are planning to move house, we suggest you start looking for a place sooner, rather than later.
Will my child have a settling in period?
Yes, our settling period is for one week (free of charge) it’s our daily routine stretched across the week. If we feel you child could do with more time this will be discussed with you at the time of setting.
Children can take anytime from 6-8 weeks to truly feel settled within a new environment.
Do you charge an enquiry fee?
Yes, we charge a non-refundable enquiry fee when you complete and return the registration forms to the nursery. The enquiry fee is an administrative charge to:
(a) reserve your child’s place at the nursery (if applicable) or (b) place your child on the nursery’s waiting list (if a place is not immediately available). Paying the enquiry fee and being placed on a waiting list does not guarantee that the nursery will be able to offer your child a place or accommodate your requested booking pattern. No enquiry fee is payable for a fully funded place.
Will I have to pay a deposit to secure my child’s future?
Yes, if your child’s will be on our waiting list for longer than 3 months. At that point we will require a desposit of half of ones months fee to secure your Childs place.
This fee is non-refundable if you later change your mind and if not then it will act towards your childs last month at the setting.
How will I find out how your child is doing throughout the day?
Our Famly App helps you stay connected with real-time updates of your child’s nursery life. Our App will give you peace of mind that your child is safe and well and keeps everyone connected – making it even easier for you to communicate with us, and for us to communicate with you.
Your child’s Key Person will also complete observations, to show your child’s progress. You will always be able to discuss these with your child’s Key Person and the observations will also be available through the Famly App.
